ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
Parents must take responsibility by directing their children's education and future. Start educating your children as early as possible. If your school district has a head start or pre-school program, consider getting your children into them. Pre-school and daycare help develop social skills for interacting with other children early and can help make the transition into elementary school easier.
It's never too early to suggest college or discuss possible careers to a young person. Talk to your children about college being a natural progression from high school, just as high school is a natural progression from middle school and middle school is a natural progression from elementary school.
Single parents should seek help from mentors. If there are no mentors at your school, try your local YMCA or YWCA, city-run programs, Big Brothers/Big Sisters, church programs, social organizations, community colleges, family members or neighbors.
