TEST EARLY

Early testing helps all students do their personal best. The Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholar Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT) and ACT's PLAN - taken in the 10th grade - provide a low-cost test-taking experience that reduces test anxiety and builds confidence. Students and parents should see their guidance counselor for registration information. Test preparation videos and software are available from the College Board--ask your counselor. Students can also consult the College Board Online at http://www.collegeboard.com.

Testing early also brings college advice and scholarship information. Colleges across the country send their publications to students who take the College Board's PSAT/ NMSQT, SAT I, Advanced Placement Exams, or the ACT's PLAN or ACT Assessments. Students simply check a permission box on their test answer sheets to receive this information. For many students, the thrill of being "recruited" by colleges becomes a reality by checking this box.

High school juniors of Hispanic descent, who take PSAT/NMSQT in October, may be invited to compete for scholarships, based on their test scores, awarded by the National Hispanic Scholar Recognition Program (NHSRP).
